Peter Huggins

Peter Huggins, author of Trosclair and the AlligatorBorn in Mississippi and reared in New Orleans, Peter Huggins teaches English at Auburn University and makes his home in Auburn, AL.  Huggins is a poet and children’s book author with three books of poetry to his credit: Hard Facts (1998), Blue Angels (2001), and Necessary Acts (2004).    His most recent book of Poetry, South, was shortlisted in 2014 for the International Rubery Book Award.  Having had more than 300 poems published in journals and magazines, Huggins was awarded a literature fellowship in poetry by the Alabama State Council on the Arts in 2006.

In addition to his works of poetry, Huggins has authored Trosclair and the Alligator, a picture book that offers a view of life in the Louisiana Bayou to young children and their parents, along with a lesson or two about following rules.  Huggins also published In the Company of Owls, a middle grade novel, in 2008.

Huggins’ Trosclair has appeared on PBS’s Between the Lions, and has received a Mom’s Choice Award, as well as being named “best book” by both the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Bank Street College of Education.
