Trouble on the Tombigbee is Dunagan's third novel following the escapades of unlikely pals Ted and Poudlum. The duo take adventure and adversity well in stride during a time when an interracial friendship could cause almost as much of a stir as the Klu Klux Klan's latest shenanigans. After a brief separation when Ted's family moves away, the boys get together to catch up, fish, and explore their beloved Tombigbee River. As luck would have it the river has more than catfish floating in it's current.

Trouble on the Tombigbee is Dunagan's third novel following the escapades of unlikely pals, Ted and Poudlum. The duo take adventure and adversity in stride during a time when an interracial friendship could cause almost as much stir as the Klu Klux Klan's latest shenanigans. After a brief separation, the boys get together to catch up, fish, and explore their beloved Tombigbee River. As luck would have it, the river has more than catfish floating in its current.

The boys discover a secret Klan meeting not far from their remote fish camp and decide to do a little sleuthing. After a close call, the two escape capture only to have their luck go from bad to worse. The Klan becomes the least of their worries when they find themselves hostage to a pair of brothers who intend to sell the boys to the shipyard. Neither Ted nor Poudlum intend to be cabin boys, so the two hatch an escape plan and run for their skins! After all is said and done, the two might not have a caught a lot of fish, but they certainly did not come up short on adventure!

Dunagan writes like a modern day Mark Twain. The story moves as quickly as the Tombigbee after a thunderstorm, the dialog is perfectly Southern, and the boys come out on top. Trouble was recently added to the Accelerated Reader list and would make an excellent addition to any library.
