A New Take on an Old Favorite
Red, by Reese Reed, is a new take on an old story—two stories, actually. Reed revisits the stories of Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White. She adds new, interesting twists and perspectives to these old favorites.

Jennifer “Red” Monroe is off to college and on her own for the first time. She’s struggling with loneliness and is racked with guilt from leaving her father alone while they are both still grieving from the death of her mother. While out for a run, she ends up lost in unfamiliar woods. She meets mysterious, yet familiar, characters as she tries to find her bearings. She’s also being hunted by someone, or something.

Reed breathes new life into the fairy tale genre by challenging our assumptions about good and evil. We learn that first impressions are not always to be trusted, that things are not always as they seem, and heroes come in many shapes and sizes.

Red is a quick read filled with action-packed scenes, mystery, and a touch of steamy romance. If you like Once Upon a Time, Twilight, or fairy tales, Red is a must-read. Take an evening off from work and chores, or take it to the beach, and enter the mysterious world of Red. Review by MK Earnest / (Posted on 6/2/2015)
Not your Average Happily Ever After
Red is an easy, but thought-provoking read that will have you wondering about every fairy tale you ever thought you knew. The story of Jen, a.k.a, “Red,” it isn’t your average, “happily ever after” sort of fairy tale, and offers up a more modern take on the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

Well worth the journey, this great little book offers up the story of a girl that could be any of us—harboring some heartbreak with the recent loss of her mother, and looking for love in some of the worst places, we get to follow Jen as she finds out exactly who her friends are in the odd new world she has somehow been sucked into.

As with any good fairy tale, the heroine of the story must muster all of her courage to fight through to the end, although –spoiler alert—the end is not exactly what you might expect.

Do yourself a favor, curl up on your sofa with this cool little novella and escape to a world of wolves, dwarves, and poisoned fruit… you’ll find it well worth your while.
