The 50th Anniversary Edition of To Kill a Mockingbird is a must-have for any Mockingbird fan. Not only is it digitally remastered and restored, but it also includes a bonus disk with hours of additional material. The film itself is a joy as always. ‘Timeless,’ ‘compelling,’ and ‘thought-provoking,’ are only some of the words viewers have used to describe the classic film.

Released in 1963, To Kill a Mockingbird set the bar high for film adaptations. Both the movie and book succeeded where many failed, giving us authentic glimpses of the book we recall from our childhood. Director Robert Mulligan knew what he had--a great, true piece of art--and knew enough to stay out of its way with his movie adaptation. The story is a great piece of cinema, one that belongs in the history books.

This edition includes a bonus disk complete with the feature-length documentary Fearful Symmetry, which encompasses the making of To Kill a Mockingbird and offers up interviews with the cast and crew. In addition to those interviews, the film-makers include a glimpse into Harper Lee's hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. Gregory Peck, who plays Atticus Finch--easily one of the film's most beloved characters--adds an additional layer of depth to Mockingbird with his insights on the story and the film itself.

In addition to its entertainment value,  the bonus material is an excellent resource for teachers as they introduce students to the Mockingbird legacy. Although there is not an interview with Harper Lee herself, Director Robert Mulligan discloses how closely she worked with the cast and crew throughout the production and screenwriting of the film.
